The current state of mining and uranium reserves
Vondra, Marek ; Nerud, Pavel (referee) ; Šnajdárek, Ladislav (advisor)
This bachelor thesis is engaged in current state of uranium mining. It describes development of uranium mining on the area of the Czech Republic from the beginning to current state of mining. There are summarized current uranium reserves in the world, with the most important mining areas included. The treatment of uranium ore is described, with its influence on the environment and the remediation of affected mining area. In the last section, the possible ways of uranium usage in the future are mentioned.
Edge of habitability: bird community on dump sites after uraninite mining
KOREJS, Kryštof
Biota on post-mining areas is a well-examined topic in restoration ecology. However, most scientific attention focuses on large-scale opencast mining sites or spoil heaps. This study attempts to offer an insight into ecological conditions on a unique ecosystem represented by dump sites after uranium mining, using birds as a study group. We examined differences in bird abundance, species richness, community structure and habitat preferences between nine moderately sized dump sites and eight control areas. Our study can function as a pilot survey of birds of uranium mining sites, offering a broad overview of population-level effects of hostile conditions. Our findings can guide restoration practices with respect to this specific type of ecosystem.
Ecosystem monitoring in uranium ore mining and processing area of interest (ore deposit Rožná) and in the Bukovský brook creek basin in 2021
Halas, Petr ; Kallabová, Eva
Periodic (annual) monitoring of ecosystems takes place on 24 areas of the Rožná deposit and on 5 comparison areas of the Bukovský brook. The effects of the uranium industry (and its accompanying activities) on biodiversity and landscape structure are identified and evaluated.
The influence of mining activities on the landscape surrounding the town Příbram
Fišerová, Šárka ; Bartoš, Michael (advisor) ; Řehounková, Klára (referee)
This diploma thesis attends to the landscape character, the methodics of the evaluation of landscape character and the influence of mining on the landscape character. Příbram, influenced by uranium mining during last century, was chosen as a model area. The aim of this thesis is a comparison of chosen methodics of the evaluation of landscape character in the term of mining district and a creation of new methodics specialized for model area. The thesis focus on the landscape character and restoration ecology in mining areas in theoretical part. There is a description of landscape character protection and preservation, also in terms of law, reclamations and uranium mining. Below, the four chosen methodics are mentioned. In practical part, the diploma thesis characterizes the model area, its history and also current situation including reclamation made. Then there are a comparison of chosen methodics of landscape character evaluation according to elected criteria and a project of methodics for to a evaluation of chosen area. Pribram Atom Magazine and its analysis, a quarter century of uranium mining in the Příbram region in the light of newspaper articles and testimony testimonies
ŠÍBA, Martin
This bachelor thesis deals with the analysis of Atom magazine, which was published in the second half of the 20th century as a reporter of Uranium mines Příbram. An inherent part of the work is also an evaluation of the current state of research. Furthermore, the readers are introduced to the history of the city of Příbram and to the history of mining, especially the mining of uranium. The main point of this work is a critical analysis of the Atom magazine, which has been for a long time Uran's Mines reporter. Finally, with the help of testimonial testimonies by using Oral history metod, I will try to reconstruct the normal operation of uranium mines. Concurrently and adequately, I compare the selected journal articles with testimony and critically evaluate them.

The history of uranium mining with particular emphasis on the 21st century
FUKA, Stanislav
Uranium is a chemical element with the brand U discovered in 1789 by German chemist Martin Heinrich Klaproth. Initially it was not particularly interesting for mankind, it was used mainly for colouring the glass. A major turning point came after the Second World War, when uranus began to be used for nuclear weapons and later for nuclear industry. At that time Czechoslovakia was the great world power in the production of uranium. The aim of my bachelor´s work is a description of the uranium research characteristics and development of uranium mining in the 20st and the 21st century in the Czech Republic and in the world. An intergovernmental contract between Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union about an uranium supply was signed in 1945. Jáchymov was the key place for the Soviet Union, there was only a research carried out in other places of Czechoslovakia. There were exported 98 500 tons of the separated uranium ore and the concentrate to the USSR. The uranium industry employed 40 000 people in the fifties of the last century and it should be mentioned that a considerable part consisted of inmates and prisoners. At the turn of the fifties and sixties, the supply for military purposes is filled up and the uranium begins to be used mainly for nuclear energy. The mining is reduced after 1989 mainly due to an overproduction of uranium. The uranium mines are gradually closed and the places of extraction and chemical finishing departments of the ore are recultivated. The only mine, which is still in operation, is in Dolní Rožínka in the Bohemian-moravian highlands. A significant problem nowadays after the extraction seems to be the location of Stráž pod Ralskem, where the uranium is mined by the method of chemical infusion (In Situ Leach), and the chemical finishing department of the ore, mainly a MAPE Mydlovary. The price of remedial work estimated at 40 billion Czech crowns in Stráž pod Ralskem and will last approximately for the next 20 years. Redevelopment in the 5 MAPE Mydlovary is estimated in the tens of billions of Czech crowns and it will take about another ten years. Bachelor´s thesis is divided into two parts. In the theoretical part, there are described the sources and methods of uranium mining, the concepts of radioactivity, uranit. After that there is described the current state of environmental burdens in the MAPE Mydlovary in Českobudějovicko. In the practical part I deal with the issue of the impact of uranium mining on man and the environment, the development in uranium mining in developing countries and the perspective of the extraction and a comparison of the uranium reserves in the Czech Republic and in the world. A section of the practical part follows up the development of the price of uranium in world market.
